Thing #12 - Rollyo

I can see why people would find this useful - it is the internet's version of a federated search. I know I have a list of favourite sites already grouped by catagory and being able to search across these favourites without having to visit each individually would certainly save time. The only drawback I see is the lack of advance search capabilities. As soon as you combine sites you become restricted to lowest commonn denominator searching which reduces the power of your search. However, for initial browsing of a topic this would be extremely useful.

Thing #11 - LibraryThing

LibraryThing is amazing! I am not a cataloguer but giving people the power to copy catalogue their collection is fabulous. Mind you, it isn't something I see myself doing. I also had a look at LibraryThing for libraries as this is what we use to enhance our catalogue - another fabulous resource! This is a great extension of the sharing that already happens through systems like Libraries Australia and I can see it growing in the future.

I played with the coat of arms generator and made myself a logo!

I think it would be very easy to spend a lot of time with these generators! Having said that I did not find them particularly easy to use.

Things #8&9 - RSS Feeds

Setting up a reader to take advantage of RSS feeds is extremely useful if you are monitoring the same site/blog regularly. I primarily see it as a current awareness tool, though it is somewhat annoying that with web based readers you cannot get alerts all the way to your desktop like email but have to remember to log in and check your feeds.

I thought it nicely illustrated the streets of Canberra at the moment. We are having some lovely autumn days and the colours of the leaves are beautiful.
